THE ART OF MATCH MAKING

ART OF MATCH MAKING

In the customary matching of horoscopes of a boy and a girl for marriage, the points usually checked for agreement:

·         Dina

·         Gana

·         Yoni

·         Rajju

·         Vedha

·         Nadi

·         Mahendra

·         Stree Deergha

·         Rasi

·         Rasi Adhipati

·         Vasya

Of these Gana, Yoni, Rajju, Vedha and rasi adhipati are most important than the rest. In addition to this primary consideration of matching on the basis of nakshatra, other secondary factors such as Kujh Dosha (manglik) , seventh house, Lagna and Venus are also relevant and, sometimes, overwhelming useful. In order to evolve a simplified formula for judging the horoscopes for agreement incorporating the above principles on a suitably weighed scale, the following procedure is adopted.

PRIMARY CRITERIA OF MATCH MAKING

For each of the matching criteria numbered 1 to 10 above mentioned, points or marks are assigned in proportion to its importance, as given below:

1.      Dina (3 points): Count the boy’s nakshatra from that of girl (remember the starting point is always the girl’s nakshatra and not the boy’s).  Remove 9 or multiples of 9, if any , from the number, and find the remainder. If the remainder is 2,4,6,8 or 9 there is matching of ‘dina’. Assign 3 points or marks as score for this agreement.

2.      Gana (4 points): The Gana appropriate to each Nakshatra is seen from the conventional tables appended to most of the Hindu almanacs or yearly Calenders as summarized in Table No1 hereunder ready for references.

From this, the Gana of the girl and boy are read out. The scoring is done as follows:

If the girl and boy have the same Gana, Viz, Deva-Deva, Manushaya-Manushaya, Rakshasha-Rakshasha, then the score = 4 points (marks). If they are Deva-Rakshasha, Deva-Manushaya, the score =2 points, If they are rakshsha-Manushaya pair, then score=0.

3.      Yoni (4 points): The yoni appropriate to the nakshatra to the girl and the boy is seen from the same table (table 1) and scoring is done based on table no 3.

4.      Rajju (5 points): The girl and the boy should not have the same  rajju. If the rajju of the girl and the boy as seen from table 1 are different, then assign the score of ‘5’ for the rajju match. Otherwise the score is ‘0’, if they have the same rajju.

5.      Vedha (4 points): Every Nakshatra has a corresponding vedha star, as given in the table no. 1. If the girl and the boy have nakshatra free from mutual ‘vedha’ as seen from table no. 1, than assign a score of ‘4’ for this agreement. Otherwise, the score is ‘0’ for vedha mismatch.

6.      Nadi (2 points): The cycle of three Nadis (aadi or first), ( Madhya or middle) and (antya or last) repeat as a sinosidal fashion over the 27 stars starting from Ashwani onwards as given in table no 1. If the girl and boy have the same ‘nadi’ the score is ‘0’. If their nadis are different, the score is’2’.

7.      Mahendra (2 points) Starting from the girl’s nakshatra, count the number to reach the boy’s nakshatra in the usual order. If the number is 4, 7,10,13,16,19,22,25 or 27, then assign a score of ‘2’ points for the Mahendra matching. Otherwise, the score is ‘0’ for this mismatch.

8.      Stree Deergha (2 points): If the number counted to reach the boy’s nakshatra from the boy’s nakshatra from the girl is more than 13, then assign a score of ‘2’. If the number is less than 13, then score ‘0’.

9.      Rasi (3 points): Count the boy’s rasi from the girl’s in the 12 houses of the zodiac taken in the usual order ( start from girl’s rasi). If the number is 1,7,8,9,10,11,or 12 then assign a score of ‘3’ for the rasi matching. If the number is 2,3,4,5,or 6, then score is ‘0’ for this mismatch.

10.  Rasi Adhipati (4 points): see if the rasi lord of the girl and boy are friends, neutral or enemies. The scoring is done as in Table No. 4 below:

11.  Vasya (2 points): From the vasya chart given in Table No 5, see if boy’s rasi is vasya to the girl and vice versa. In case of matching assign a score of ‘2’. Otherwise, it should be ‘0’ score.

If the score obtained while considering a horoscope pair exceeds 18 (18/35) the agreement is said to be ‘fair’. Otherwise, the agreement is considered ‘poor’. If the score exceeds 25 925/35) the match may be deemed very good.

The ready reckoner chart is attached herewith for reference.

In the above mentioned table the vertical columns represent the girl and horizontal columns represent the boy. The nakshatra, wherever required, have been split into their respective rasi components to enable the right assessment score. From the quick reading of 35 points is found out. As outlined earlier, the compatibility rating is given in table no. 8.

Part 2: Secondary Considerations

Other criteria in judging horoscopes for marriage: Even though the above rating is complete in itself and leads one to unmistakable assessment of the compatibilitry, yet there are few more considerations which are relevant and useful to the meticulous.

These are:

a)      Kuja-Dosha (8 points)

b)      Seventh- house Consideration (4 points)

c)      Lagna Consideration ( 2 points )

d)     Venus Consideration ( 1 point)

Adding up to a sub-total of 15 points on the score card on the same weightage. These are assessed as follows:

1.                  Kuja Dosha: According to classical tradition Kuja-Dosha exists if Mars is found in 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th 12th as per classics. However, as the dictum does not clarify from where the above positions 2,4,7,8,12 are to be reckoned (i.e. whether from the Moon, Lagna or karka venus). Generally kuja dosha is reckoned frm all the 3 lagna, moon and venus to get qualified results.

However, in an attempt to qualify the extent of kuja dosha present, the following weighed system of score has now been introduced.

·         For Kuja- Dposha from Lagna – 4points

·         For kuja-Dosha from moon- 2 points

·         For Kuja- Dosha from venus- 2 points

Total = 8 points

If Kuja- Dosha exists for both the boy and the girl or if both, their horoscope are free from kuja-dosha, The score if full i.e. 4,2,2 for each of the three cases( lagna, moon and venus) respectively, if on the other hand kuja-Dosha exists for one (girl or boy) and not for the others, than the score is ‘0’ for that circumstances ( lagna, moon and venus).

2.                  Seventh House consideration (4 points): For happy married life, the seventh house should be free from affliction and if possible have benefic aspects. The scopring for this is done as follows:

Ø    If the seventh house of the boy is favourably occupied or aspected, score=1 point

Ø    If the seventh house of the girl is favourably occupied or aspected, score= 1 point

Ø    If the lord of the seventh (boy) is well placed or aspected, score=1 point

Ø    If the lord of the seventh (girl) is well placed or aspected, score=1 point

           Total ,score = 4 points

3.                  Lagna Consideration: It is customary to assess the health of the boy and the girl as a pre-    requisite for their ultimate happiness by examining the first house( lagna).

Ø    If the first house is strong for the girl and the boy, score=2

Ø    If the lagna is strong for one and weak for the other, score-1 point

Ø    If weak for both, score= 0

4.                  Shukra or Venus (score 1 point)

A small addendum to all the above criteria of matching is sometimes the position of venus (kalatrakaraka) in the boy’s horoscope is good, the score point is ‘1’. If venus is badly placed, the score on this count=0.
